When to use it
When you provide a book file or ask to summarize or distill a book. Produces a self-contained note: the reader hasn't read the book and may have no background in the domain.

When should I use book-distill instead of just asking for a summary?
A summary from memory reconstructs what an LLM thinks it read, with inaccurate quotes and gaps. Book-distill reads the actual text, verifies every quote word-for-word, and structures ideas thematically so the result stays memorable.
Is the note useful if I haven't read the book?
Yes, that's the point. The note is designed to be self-contained: no prior reading or domain background required.
Does the skill invent counterpoints, or do they come from the book?
Any added counterpoints are clearly flagged as such and kept separate from extracted content. The skill doesn't put words in the book's mouth.
